Our foundation stallion Magic has always been one to command your attention. He can’t help himself, always the showman at expos and first to greet anyone that comes to visit the farm. It really is no wonder that he caught the attention of a local artist, Nancy Shaw. She specializes in pet portraits, mostly dogs, but after visiting the farm she felt compelled to make a sketch of Magic. This is just the preliminary drawing, and I can’t wait to see the final oil pastel.
Isabelle’s First Halter Lesson
Fells at Ohio Equine Affaire
Hi, I thought everyone would like to know what special things the ponies will be up to at the Columbus Ohio Equine Affaire, April 12-15. All four days the ponies will be in the Breed Pavilion and take turns in the Presentation ring for questions from the crowd. On Friday Jade and Dana will be following Monty Roberts in the Youth Pavillion at 10:45am. They will be giving a little talk to the kids about the Fell Pony breed. Again on Friday at 5:30pm, Jade and Dana will be in the Muffy Seaton clinic on bending the combined driving horse. Saturday will be our breed demonstration at 11:15am. We have several ponies this year for the breed demo, Our stallion Magic will be in harness this year, along with Jade, May Belle, and Sue Brown’s Prince in-hand. I will be sure to take lots of photos and give an update when I can.
Winterland Boys
Both the colts born last August have enjoyed spending the winter together. This winter was sooo cold the boys really put on some heavy coats of fur. I can’t help but think they look like baby Yaks! As all things come to an end, winter has finally left us, and the grass is beginning to grow. All the ponies including the boys are shedding those heavy coats. Now they look like baby buffalo with the dried brown coat hanging from their backs and the sleek new black underneath.
Who’s Baby?
Ponies, like all equines are very social animals. Each of the ponies have their own unique traits. Juliette for instance is a very sweet mare, that loves being a mom. However, she is an alpha mare and is in charge. In the photo above is Juliette the dark bay, Jade the grey, and Jade’s baby, Angel. The funny thing is, Angel is forever following Juliette around, stealing her food, and invading her space as if Juliette were her mother instead of Jade’s. I get a good laugh when I tell Juliette, “That’s not your baby!” and Juliette will pin her ears and shoo Angel away, as if she understands what I am saying.
Welcome
After many requests Kimberlake Farm has started a blog. The goal is to keep all the Fell Pony Fans up to date on what the ponies are doing. Winter is a slower time for us here at Kimberlake so that should give plenty of time for taking photos and sharing fun stories. I hope you enjoy the news, and as this is new for the farm please give feedback on what you would like to know more about./span/div/div
